Important Update to Interac e-Transfer Security Questions

Interac has released a new update to the e-Transfer tool which may require you to update your security questions for your recipients.

If you have not updated the security questions and answers for your recipients since September 20, 2018, you will be required to update this information before proceeding with the e-Transfer.

If prompted, you will need to change the answer to the security question or create an entirely new question and answer.

Please note that any security questions and answers that have not been updated by September 1, 2019, will be deleted by Interac, at which point you will be forced to reset this information.

How to Keep your Password Secure

    • Don’t reuse your passwords. If you use the same password on every site and one experiences a breach, you run the risk of having other accounts hacked too.
    • Don’t write your passwords down. While it may seem that keeping track of your passwords the old-fashioned way keeps them safe from cyber-attacks, you never know who may come across your notes.
    • Use a password manager. There are many apps that store your passwords securely, or use an encrypted document that only you can access.
    • Don’t share your passwords. As self-explanatory as it may be, it is always a good reminder that your passwords could easily end up in the wrong hands. If you have to share a password, change it as soon as possible.
    • Don’t use common words, phrases or personal information. Hello1234, password, and your birthday may be easy to remember, but they are also extremely easy to guess.

National Denim Day – Tuesday, May 14, 2019

The 23rd Annual National Denim Day is Tuesday, May 14, and Entegra is proud to be a CURE Ambassador again this year. On Denim Day, Entegra staff will pay $5 to wear denim in support of the CURE Foundation. All funds raised help to provide funding for medical equipment and community programs for breast cancer patients. Visit your local branch on Denim Day to help support this very important cause.

Strong Passwords

Effective March 11, 2019, as an added level of member security, the online banking login process has changed. Members are required to change their passwords from all numbers to stronger alphanumeric passwords. This can only be done through Entegra’s mobile app or the desktop version of entegra.ca.  As soon as you login to online banking or Entegra’s mobile app, you will be prompted to change your password.

Your new password must contain:

  • Between 8 and 30 characters
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one number

Note: Special characters are optional: @ # $ - | !

Additional Information for Business Members with Delegates

Immediately after strong passwords are implemented, any appointed delegates will have their status changed to inactive. This will cause them to be unable to log in until their status has been updated.

How to update delegate status

  1. The Signer must log in to Online Banking.
  2. Navigate to Business Services
  3. Select Add/Modify Delegates
  4. Select Edit next to the Delegate you need to update
  5. Change the Delegate status from Inactive to Active

March is Fraud Prevention Month

Each year thousands of people are affected by various types of fraud. With new scams appearing all the time, keeping yourself informed and learning how you can protect yourself can reduce your chances of becoming the next victim of fraud.

Here are some tips to help you protect yourself:

  1. Keep your personal information private. Be careful of requests to provide personal and/or financial information. Protect your information and remember to not respond to emails or phone calls from people or organizations you do not know, especially when they are asking for confidential information.
  2. Do not open an email from people or organizations that seem suspicious. Make sure to never click on a link or attachment in an email that seems suspicious to you.
  3. Protect your PIN number and passwords. Select a unique PIN and memorize it. Never use obvious information like your telephone number or date of birth; only you should know it. When using your debit card use your hand to shield your PIN, always keep it in sight when conducting transactions and remember to take your card and transaction receipt with you when the transaction is done.
  4. Familiarize yourself with the most common types of scams. Being able to recognize current scams will protect you from becoming a victim of fraud. Familiarize yourself; check out the Little Black Book of Scams.

Telephone Scams

Telephone scams can affect any of our members unsuspectingly.

If you receive a phone call from a number you don’t recognize requesting personal account information, even if the caller ID displays Entegra Credit Union, this is likely a scam. Please hang up and contact your local branch immediately. Remember, Entegra would never request personal and sensitive account information over the phone.
